Our Sissybar for the BMW R18 lets the passenger travel much more safely, comfortably, and relaxed thanks to the comfortable cushion. It also accentuates the appealing tail end of the R 18 with its high-quality design. The design perfectly follows the styling of the R 18, with the construction providing a coordinated accent. With an eye for detail, we have used the same high-quality upholstery material as the R18 seat. Our upholsterer has joined the sections with the matching seam pattern, i.e., adapted to the seat. Discreet and refined!

I’ll preface this review by saying that I installed the backrest WITH the Wunderlich luggage rack and the original saddle bag adapter kit on an R18 Classic. Overall both products look absolutely amazing, the chrome finish is great and the leather of the backrest matches the seat well. Overall, very happy with how they look together on the bike, and the included directions were solid on their own. However, there are no instructions available on how to install both the backrest AND luggage rack, which means I’m left uncertain if I should have put a washer between the chrome of the rack and the backrest. Some basic instructions would be nice. The other thing holding these back from a 5 star review is the fit and price. These were NOT easy to install, and required more muscle bending the metal than I felt comfortable with to get everything to line up. I honestly would have expected much better tolerances at this kind of price. And on top of that, charging for 4 extra bolts and washers to get the adopter kit for the original saddle bags is ridiculous. Those should be included as an option when checking out. Despite just how much effort it took to install the backrest and mount (and it was a LOT) and the sky high price tag, I’m overall happy with the finished product and would consider future accessories from Wunderlich.

Great Backrest But

The quality is great like the other products I have purchase. My wife enjoys it and says it has mad riding as a passenger much more pleasant. The only complaint that I have, and I think it might just be bad luck. On one side the mounting holes didn't line up perfectly. This caused me to struggle for a while to get both bolts inserted without cross threading the bolts. It took me about 30 minutes of moving the backrest around so that I could thread the bolts in by hand. After doing the first side the second side bolts went in with ease. I have a R18 Classic so holding on to the saddle bags while doing this was a real pain. Other than that I have no complaints and I am happy with the backrest.

So I ordered the black backrest and the adapter kit on backorder for my r18 Classic since I want my bags available just as much as I want my wife not to fall off the back of the bike during acceleration. It is high quality, stitching and material match my stock seat. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a passenger backrest. I did not like the OEM options as they had too many right angles which ABSOLUTELY ruin the flow of the r18. As always with Wunderlich, quality and style. Very Happy! I chose bags over wifes safety and removed the backrest for the time being. Hate to have to find another wife.
